From the Principal -Mr. O'Leary

Welcome to Week 1 and the start of Term 4. It is hard to believe that we have commenced the final term of the year. I am sure it is going to be exciting with many exciting opportunities to look forward to. We have a busy term planned, where we are working towards achieving learning goals for our students. We appreciate your partnership in supporting the learning journey with your child.

This coming Wednesday, 16th October we will be celebrating St John the Apostle with our celebration day. The feast day of St John is actually in the Summer holidays, so this is our way of celebrating and learning a little more about our Saint.

From the Catholic encyclopedia:                                                                                                                      St. John, Apostle and Evangelist

St. John the Apostle, the son of Zebedee and Salome, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. John's older brother was St. James the Great, another one of Jesus' Twelve Apostles. Jesus referred to the brothers as "Boanerges," meaning "sons of thunder." John is believed to be the longest living apostle and the only not to die a martyr's death.

John, along with Peter and James, were the only witnesses of the raising of Daughter of Jairus, and the closest witnesses to the Agony in Gethsemane.  John was the only one of the Twelve Apostles who did not forsake the Savior in the hour of His Passion. He stood faithfully at the cross when the Savior made him the guardian of His Mother. After the Assumption of Mary, John went to Ephesus, according to Church tradition. He later became banished by the Roman authorities to the Greek Island of Patmos; this is where he allegedly wrote the Book of Revelation.  John is known as the author of the Gospel of John and four other books in the New Testament - the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation.

One of our most special days of the year is next Friday, 25th October with Grandparent’s Day. It is an opportunity for the children’s grandparents to celebrate with us in liturgy and share afternoon tea together. The Liturgy commences at 1.00pm in the performance hall at St John's College.

God bless and have a wonderful week                                                                                                          Anthony O’Leary

Religion News - Mrs. Clifford

Welcome Back! SJP community, welcome back to Term 4. Hopefully you were able to find some sunshine to enjoy the slower pace that comes with the school holidays and are ready to tackle all that comes with Term 4.

St. John’s Celebration Day: This coming Wednesday, students and staff will come together to celebrate our Patron Saint, St. John the Apostle. We will learn of the loyalty John had towards Jesus and his dedication towards being a disciple of God. St. John’s Feast Day actually falls on the 27th December when we are all on school holidays, however as he is our Patron Saint, we ensure we put aside a date to celebrate St. John. Parents are more than welcome to join us in our hall at 1pm for a Liturgy.

SJP’s Sponsor Child Stephanie Nnamele:                                      This coming Wednesday SJP will hold a School Disco for our Sponsor child Stephanie from Nigeria. All students are encouraged to attend the Disco (which will be held after school) and wear their favourite sport themed clothes, as Stephanie applies herself particularly well in areas of sport while at school.

The cost of the disco will be $5 per student. Students will receive a popper and a lolly bag at the disco. Please see the attached page for more details and times for each grade to attend.

Enrolment for the Sacrament of Reconciliation
This coming weekend will see the beginning of the Preparation Sessions for this sacrament for our Year 2 Catholic students. Students making this sacrament are required to attend one session each week for the next 3 weeks.

The session will be offered at St. Brigid’s Hall at the times listed below. If you are yet to receive communication from Rosie Hosking (St. Brigid’s Sacramental Coordinator, please contact her asap on: sacraments.dubbo@cdob.org.au

Save the date!
One of the most exciting days on our school calendar is when we celebrate Grandparents Day. Parents and grandparents, please save the date and time as we would love to see you there! Friday 25th October (Week 2) @1pm at St. John’s College Hall.

Mass at St. Brigid’s Church:    Saturday - 6:00pm, Sunday - 9:00am and Sunday - 6:00pm

Enjoy your week!                                                                                                                                                Paula Clifford                                                                                                                                              Religious Education Coordinator
