 Welcome to Term 2.

Today we remember ANZAC Day at school with our remembrance prayer. I would also like to thank our staff and students who represented our school at the Dubbo service during the holidays.

ANZAC DAY

God of love and liberty,

we bring our thanks this day

for the peace and security we enjoy,

which was won for us through the courage

and devotion of those who gave

their lives in time of war.

Amen

Mothers Day: This Wednesday the Mother’s Day stall will be held. A big thank you to our amazing P&F for organizing. The special Mothers Day Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday 10th of May followed by afternoon tea.

The next P&F meeting will be held next week, Week 2 on Tuesday evening.

God Bless and have a wonderful week

Religious Education News - Mrs Clifford

Welcome to Term 2! I trust all of our families enjoyed the slower pace that comes with the term break and hopefully everyone has recharged for another busy term. Very soon this term, we will begin preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation for our Year 6 Catholic students, and also each grade will attend Mass with Fr Greg throughout the term.

Next week we will be very busy as we celebrate Catholic Schools Week (see more information on the following pages) and Mother’s Day. Once again, our school term is off to a busy start!

ANZAC Services:

Thankyou to the families who supported SJP’s participation in Dubbo’s annual ANZAC March. It was lovely to see so many of our students represent our school with such pride and respect.

As students return, we will also come together as a school community to commemorate and remember our war heroes and reflect on the cost of war. Anzac day is deeply felt by the Australian and New Zealand people and can be viewed in many ways:

  • It is a commemoration of those fallen in war and gives honour to all those who gave their lives so that we may live in freedom.
  • It is a day of national identity for both Australia and New Zealand.
  • It is a story of victory in defeat, survival in the face of overwhelming odds.
  • It is also a prayer for peace because all war is terrible no matter what heroism it reveals.

As we pray together as a school community, we will reflect and pray for peace: peace in our world, peace among people in our own country, peace in our families, and peace in our own hearts.

Open Classrooms next week:

As SJP will celebrate Catholic Schools Week next week, we extend an invitation to all families to stay after the Mother’s Day Liturgy and afternoon tea, to visit their children's classrooms. This is a great opportunity to see your child in action in their classroom and have a look at some of the work they have around the room. We understand that many parents may wish to take their children home after the visit - in this instance, please be aware that you must sign your child out so we are aware that they have left the school grounds.

Please be aware of our Catholic School Week activities, which are included below.

Mother’s Day Liturgy:

Once again this year, our Kindergarten students will melt all of our hearts as they lead us in the Mother’s Day Liturgy next Friday 10th May. Parents, please save the date for this event. All members of our school community are invited, however a particular invitation is extended to all mums, nans, grandmas, grannies, mas etc. Also, please be aware that as we have outgrown our own school hall on days such as these, we will celebrate the Liturgy in St John’s College Hall.

All parents will be invited to then return to SJP for an afternoon hosted by the P&F. We look forward to seeing many of you there.

Catholic Schools Week 2024

St. John’s Primary

Week 2: Monday 6th - Friday 10th May

 “Experience the Spirit of Community”

Catholic Schools Week is a week for SJP to celebrate! It is an opportunity to celebrate our school, celebrate connection with families and also highlight the successes of the teachers and children. St. John’s Primary is very proud to foster the holistic development of its students, promote their wellbeing and encourage them to learn and nurture their talents and skills. Each child has the potential to change the world for the better, making it a kinder, more inclusive and more welcoming place. We therefore wish to demonstrate this and invite you along to witness the great learning and development that takes place at SJP.

All parents are invited to attend school for:

  • CSW Mass on Thursday 9th May at 12:45pm in our school hall. Our Christian Ministry students will assist with the Mass..
  • Mother’s Day Liturgy on Friday 10th May at 1pm in St. John’s College Hall. Please come along to our Liturgy, stay for afternoon tea hosted by the P&F and then visit your child/ren in their classroom starting at 2pm.
